About the data
Data as of 24 August 2026.
Source and licence
Every rating on this site is republished from the Food Standards Agency's public food hygiene ratings register, published as open data under the Open Government Licence v3.0. The primary source is ratings.food.gov.uk, which remains the definitive record for any individual business.
Coverage
This build covers 611,658 establishments across 363 local authorities in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, rolled up into 2,773 towns (1,996 of them with enough rated businesses to appear in the town leagues). England, Wales and Northern Ireland use the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS), a 0 to 5 scale; Scotland uses the separate Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS), which records Pass or Improvement Required rather than a number.
What is not in this build yet
Rating history, "movers" pages and the phoenix (new-operator) detector are being built from the same daily snapshots but are not part of the site yet. Nothing is lost by the wait: the underlying daily archive keeps accumulating in the meantime.
Reuse
Every town page has a matching data table journalists and researchers are welcome to republish with a link back to the town page it came from; see the contact page for how to reach us about anything larger.
